  • AIMS

After a first year in the Louis Pasteur scientific portal, the last two years of the Life and Earth Sciences degree in Biological and Geological Sciences (SVT SBG) offer a bi-disciplinary course that combines life sciences and earth sciences. It consolidates the knowledge acquired in high school in all areas of life and earth sciences, and extends it with training that is both synthetic and specialized in all university disciplines in the field of life and earth sciences - cellular and molecular biology, biology of organisms and populations, and geology.

The course is designed to meet the national specifications for training secondary school teachers, and the natural outlet for this course is therefore the Masters in Life Sciences. In addition, the course provides skills that can be fully exploited in scientific dissemination masters (nature animators, scientific journalism) or certain disciplinary masters (agrosciences, ecology, geology, environment).

  • LEARNING AND RESEARCH

Although the main aim of the course is not research, the training is organised through research, based on recent results put into perspective with knowledge inherited from the history of science. All the teachers are university teachers-researchers or agrégés-holders of a doctorate.

  • PROFESSIONAL SKILLS TO BE ACQUIRED

Appropriate and restore a base of knowledge on the scale of the cell and its cellular environment, on the scale of the organism and its environment and in geosciences
Relate current knowledge to the history of biological and geological concepts and discoveries
Invoke the physico-chemical and mathematical bases for knowledge in life sciences
Observe, describe, identify, discriminate or classify naturalist objects and link the different scales of observation
Build a synthetic demonstrative reasoning from data coming from mastered knowledge or from a documentary corpus
Use educational software (input, exploitation, analysis) with a view to its introduction into a learning sequence
Link scientific knowledge to educational issues (health, sexuality, sustainable development and citizenship)
To become familiar with the practice of teaching and school life in secondary schools

  • SPECIFIC TEACHING CONDITIONS

The teaching goes beyond the classic CM/TP/TD framework to emphasise mixed sessions (CM-TD, CM-TP) which leave a lot of room for oral expression. The course is assessed on a continuous basis, which makes it possible to manage individual progress over the semester and the year.

  • OFFSITE TEACHING

The L2 and L3 SVT SBG degree courses are only taught at the Saint-Charles site, Marseille.
