Master Mécanique, Parcours : Fluids and solids

  • AIMS

The Fluids and Solids (F&S) pathway offers scientific training with the aim of understanding, modelling and analysing fluid and solid media present in particular in the environment, in natural processes, at the interface with biology, or in industrial processes. By building on knowledge of the mechanics of continuous, formable media, the course moves on to the understanding and modelling of complex flows and fluid-solid interaction phenomena, enabling students to pursue further studies in the framework of a research training programme, in particular in the field of fluid mechanics;training through research and, in particular, a doctoral thesis, while providing the skills needed to respond to research and development challenges in fields relating to the environment, renewable energy, risk and safety, health, to name but a few examples.

  • FUNDAMENTAL PREREQUISITES

Level of study M1 in continuous media mechanics, mathematical methods in physics, scientific computing. Proficiency in English.

  • FUNDAMENTAL PREREQUISITES

Knowledge of M1 level in fluid and solid mechanics and experimental methods.

  • LEARNING AND RESEARCH

The M2 Fluids and Solids (F&S) programme is naturally supported by the four laboratories of the Fabri de Peiresc research federation (IRPHE, IUSTI, LMA, M2P2), located at the Château-Gombert technology park in Marseille. The training provided enables the M2 work placement to be carried out in one of the laboratories. In particular, the course prepares students for academic research, as part of a doctoral thesis.

  • PROFESSIONAL SKILLS TO BE ACQUIRED

    • Mastery of mechanical and physical concepts and models of complex fluid and solid media.
    • Propose relevant theoretical and numerical modelling of mechanical systems in a multi-physics environment.
    • Develop laboratory test protocols in order to reproduce and analyse the key mechanisms associated with mechanical systems in natural and living environments.
    • Develop laboratory test protocols in order to reproduce and analyse the key mechanisms associated with mechanical systems in natural and living environments.
    • Develop laboratory test protocols in order to reproduce and analyse the key mechanisms associated with mechanical systems in natural and living environments.
    • Develop laboratory test protocols in order to reproduce and analyse the key mechanisms associated with mechanical systems in natural and living environments.
    • Pilot multidisciplinary research and development projects, particularly in the fields of the environment, sustainable energy, health, risk and safety.
  • INTERNSHIPS AND SUPERVISED PROJECTS

The internship in the 2nd semester of M2 provides an opportunity to put the skills acquired into practice around a laboratory model relating to the disciplinary content of the course. The aim of the tutored projects is to stimulate cross-fertilisation of the knowledge and skills acquired during the various courses on the pathway.
