Aesthetic judgment, critical analysis and creation are intimately linked. The aim of this seminar will be to develop a critical analysis of contemporary films that puts into abyme and into question the artistic gesture as a critical gesture and vice versa. The Mediterranean territory, and particularly the Marseille region, is a fertile ground for cinematographic creation.

    - T.

    - T. Roche: Finishing documentary cinema remains a work in progress. This reflection is constantly updated and evolves with the creativity of film makers who blur the boundaries between fiction and reality. By analysing films from the history of documentary cinema, we will attempt to better define this territory and explore some of the infinite possibilities available to filmmakers in order to translate their relationship to the world. Each time, the aim will be to clarify the clever mix of which the films are made up, life captured on the spot and/or staging of the reality, intervention and/or observation, description and/or interpretation. The film excerpts will be problematized and together we will try to analyze the methodologies and devices imagined by the reactivators.

    - The course will be structured in the form of three mini seminars that will punctuate the second semester. These seminars will mainly be the place for group work, during which each project will be scrutinised by all the students and by the teacher in terms of writing (file + references/tests). This naturally implies the absolute obligation that the students have read the projects of the others (and re-read the new versions before each session). In addition, there will be a short introductory session (1 hour to explain the issues at stake in the mini-session), and a short assessment at the end (also 1 hour).

    - Each student presents his or her personal film project to a first jury composed of film and television professionals. A second jury composed by the members of the teaching team decides on the selection of the 4 film projects that will be developed in the second year of the master's programme as well as on the composition of the groups.
