  • AIMS

After a first year in the Louis Pasteur scientific portal, the last two years of the Life and Earth Sciences degree (SVT Terre) offer all the courses inherent to the Earth and Environmental Sciences disciplines. It allows students to acquire a base of knowledge in Earth sciences and to develop theoretical and practical skills.

On the basis of an introduction to the scientific approach, the student will be trained in reasoning and professional gestures in relation to the use of field and laboratory geological equipment.

The Earth course trains future geologists to a technical level and prepares them mainly for further studies in the fields of Earth and planetary sciences, environment or environmental management.

  • FUNDAMENTAL PREREQUISITES

The Earth course is open to all L1 students - having acquired the 60 ECTS - from the Louis Pasteur portal of Aix-Marseille University. For students from other universities, other courses - BTS, DUT, professional licences, CPGE, other courses or for foreign students, an examination of the skills acquired will be carried out by a pedagogical committee after reading the application file.

  • FUNDAMENTAL PREREQUISITES

In the 2nd and 3rd year, the equivalence of credits mainly concerns the fields of earth sciences, physics and chemistry.

  • LEARNING AND RESEARCH

Over the course of the three years, students will participate in numerous field and research laboratory internships to carry out practical work. These internships, which have a professionalizing character, also allow students to become aware of the world of research, inviting them to continue their studies in this direction.

The teacher-researchers in the Earth Sciences programme mainly carry out their research activities in the Cerege laboratory - European Research and Teaching Centre for Environmental Geosciences - at Aix-Marseille University.

  • PROFESSIONAL SKILLS TO BE ACQUIRED

Observe, understand, characterise and quantify the geological objects and systems of the Earth's inner and outer shells.
Be able to interpret, through a multidisciplinary approach, their processes of formation and evolution in space and time, as well as the environmental phenomena to which they may be linked.
Be able to carry out the professional gestures of the geologist's profession from the field to the laboratory.

  • SPECIFIC TEACHING CONDITIONS

The lectures are illustrated by applications in situations during the numerous tutorials, practical work and field trips (248 h). The acquisition of skills is assessed through continuous assessment, final tests of knowledge base, reports of practical work or field trips, but also oral presentations. The course is assessed on a continuous basis, which makes it possible to manage individual progress over the semester and the year. The assessment of skills is carried out throughout the course in continuous assessment, which makes it possible to manage individual progress throughout the semester. An e-portfolio is also assessed and validated at the end of the third year.

  • OFFSITE TEACHING

The teaching of the L2 and L3 SVT Earth degree is only given at the Saint-Charles site, Marseille.
