Pédagogie

  • AIMS

    The Master's degree in Mathematics and Applications has the ambition to offer a very high level of training in the understanding, use, communication and research of mathematics, both fundamental and applied. The training relies on the excellence and diversity of the teacher-researchers belonging mainly to the Institut de Mathématiques de Marseille (I2M) attached to the Institut de Mathématiques de Marseille; the University of Aix-Marseille (AMU), the CNRS and the Ecole Centrale de Marseille, as well as other laboratories of the university, notably in computer science. Its range of courses offers career opportunities in a wide range of sectors where mathematics is present: secondary education (agrarian), higher education and academic research, leading edge maths engineering in key private sectors (IT, energy, transport, telecoms, banking, insurance, health, etc.).

    ul

    • Understand, use and develop knowledge of the fundamental concepts and methods of mathematics through the formalisation and solution of problems arising from mathematics or other disciplines.
    • Do the analysis and initiative to model a mathematical problem in a systematic way
    • Develop the spirit of analysis and initiative in order to model a scientific problem mathematically by using an adapted scientific corpus and by making the link between different fields of mathematics.
    • Prepare a mathematical text, prepare and give an oral presentation in French and English and master the use of computer tools (scientific word processors, slide shows).
    • Work within a research group and establish a constructive dialogue.
    • Investigate, communicate and share disciplinary skills and apply knowledge in a university research laboratory or applied research and development department.
  • INTERNSHIPS AND SUPERVISED PROJECTS

    The master's courses all include :

    • a tutored project in M1 (Work of Study and Research) ;
    • a research internship in M2 in a laboratory (which can in some fields be carried out in a company) ;
    • the first 3 semesters a UE Scientific communication during which students are invited to familiarise themselves with scientific popularisation by covering or exposing a related mathematical field
