  • FUNDAMENTAL PREREQUISITES

    • For the M1, the prerequisites correspond to the skills acquired in the MIASH degree, the mathematics degree or equivalent.
    • For the M2, the prerequisites correspond to the skills acquired in the M1MAS, MASS-Population Analysis track or equivalent level.
  • FUNDAMENTAL PREREQUISITES

A multi-disciplinary study or internship experience.

  • LEARNING SITES

    • SCIENCES, Marseille St-Charles
  • LEARNING AND RESEARCH

The parcours Applied Mathematics and Social Sciences: Population analysis  is a high-level multidisciplinary scientific training on population analysis with a major in statistics. With a dual research and professional purpose, it is structured by three main components:Statistics, Computer Science and Population Analysis. It is led by a pedagogical team composed of members of laboratories of mathematics (I2M), computer science (LIS) and social sciences (LPED, ESPACE, LEST) of the University of Aix-Marseille.

  • PROFESSIONAL SKILLS TO BE ACQUIRED

    • Conduct large-scale quantitative research on human population issues related to multiple contexts, mobilising knowledge in statistics, computer science and social sciences within a multidisciplinary team.
    • Design and implement appropriate methods for data collection, processing and analysis of data
    • Design and implement adapted methods for collecting, processing and analysing quantitative, category and textual data using statistical software.
    • Master the theoretical frameworks in social sciences and the steps of a research methodology to conduct and coordinate population-based studies.
    • Design, manage, operate survey databases to extract data relevant to a study.
    • Exploit massive data in the field of investigation.
    • Mobilize knowledge in Statistics, Computer Science and Social Sciences to interact within a multidisciplinary team and be the guarantor of a project.
  • INTERNSHIPS AND SUPERVISED PROJECTS

An important part of the course is dedicated to projects (mini-project, ter, model workshop, multidisciplinary or company project) or carried out as part of the teaching. The training includes a 2-month internship in M1 and a 4-6 month internship or a work-study program in M2.

  • SPECIFIC TEACHING CONDITIONS

The pedagogies employed aim at an understanding of the theoretical frameworks and methods for effective practical implementation. An important part is devoted to the analysis of real data sets and the use of statistical and specific software. Active teaching methods play an important role, particularly through the implementation of collective student projects.
