  • AIMS

The aim of the IBM course is to train graduates to master's level in industrial and applied microbiology, capable of:
    - develop an experimental approach and integrate or design a project
a project in bioindustries in the agri-food, pharmaceutical and environmental sectors, pharmaceutical and environmental sectors
    - write or give an oral presentation of an industrial microbiology
industrial and applied microbiology project or report
    - apply microbiology skills in research and development
    production or quality control.
    quality control.

  • LEARNING AND RESEARCH

The Microbial Engineering and Biotechnology course is supported by a number of microbiology laboratories and technological platforms in the Faculties of Science and Pharmacy at Aix Marseille Université (such as the Institut de Microbiologie de la Méditerranée and the Institut Méditerranéen d'Océanographie), the Cadarache Atomic Energy Centre, the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique in Marseille and Avignon, as well as the region's bioindustries and control bodies (such as HTSbio, Proteus-PCAS, Techno'al , GERME S. A., Déinove, Laboratoire Départemental d'Analyse, Services Commun des Laboratoires, etc.).

  • PROFESSIONAL SKILLS TO BE ACQUIRED

    - take part in projects for the development and use of microorganisms of interest
    - solve problems linked to the presence and development of undesirable microorganisms
    - master the main techniques of microbiological quality control and microbiological risk analysis in industry
    - develop rapid analysis tools for the identification, detection and enumeration of microorganisms and for the diagnosis of infectious diseases

  • INTERNSHIPS AND SUPERVISED PROJECTS

Two main projects involving industrial biotechnology and microbiological risk analysis will be carried out during the first semester of the course. The second semester of the course will consist of a work placement in a company, research or control laboratory or technology platform.

  • SPECIFIC TEACHING CONDITIONS

The teaching method is based on traditional methods, mainly TDs, lectures and TPs, and active teaching approaches that involve designing a poster, slide shows and a protocol, and presenting projects, seminars, experimental results and a poster.
