Attendance - Absences
ou'll find all the answers you need to questions about attendance and absences in the " modalités de contrôle de connaissance" (MCC).
Generally speaking, attendance is compulsory: "Students enrolled in a course are required to attend the tutorials and/or practical work that form part of the curriculum".
For students with grants, attendance is verified by the University at the request of the CROUS. Attendance at UFR Sciences is assessed according to the following system (cf. UFR Sciences internal regulations, Title II): A student is declared non-attending as soon as he/she is unjustifiably absent (ABI) from a teaching unit.
ATTENTION: when a student with a CROUS grant is declared non-attending, his/her grant is immediately suspended and the CROUS generally demands repayment of the monthly instalments already paid.
Students absent from a continuous or final test have five working days in which to justify their absence to their home school. This period runs from the date of the test at which the absence was noted.
At the end of the last examination session, students who have failed their exams and who have submitted an express request to be allowed to sit for an exceptional substitution session organized by the component, and whose absence has been justified.
An ad hoc component committee is responsible for deciding on such requests. It assesses the exceptional nature and seriousness of the circumstances of the justified absence, based in particular on the following criteria : - the occurrence of a serious event that has physically prevented the student from taking part in the test, such as hospitalization; - a serious family event (such as death) affecting a family member directly related to the student (spouse, child, father, mother, siblings). In the case of continuous assessment, it is the responsibility of the component to determine the extent to which an absence from one or more assessment tests will determine the student's default status.
