Welcome to the Faculty of Sciences
The Faculty of Sciences at Aix-Marseille University is a hubof innovation and continuous improvement. Innovation takes place in its numerous laboratories, which span all scientific disciplines. Continuous improvement is driven by our faculty, who work tirelessly to enhance our students’ education: scientific skills—namely, the ability to solve new problems; professional skills, gained through collaboration with the socio-economic sector; and international skills, developed through partnerships with numerous universities, particularly—though not exclusively—under the CIVIS agreement.
The Faculty of Sciences boasts a rich history dating back to the early 20th century. Its laboratories are primarily located in Marseille, ranging from the north—in Château-Gombert and Saint-Jérôme—to the center—in Saint-Charles—and the south—in Luminy and Joseph Aiguier. In addition, there is a laboratory in Aubagne that focuses on image and sound. Our degree programs are logically distributed across these same locations, with the addition of Aix-Montperrin, which offers bachelor’s degree programs.
More recently, institutes have been established to conduct multidisciplinary research on specific themes, with the aim of breaking down barriers between disciplines and strengthening the link between education and research. This “education-research” link is a hallmark of university education. It provides a rich working methodology applicable to all sectors. Thus, the very high standard of research conducted in our laboratories contributes to the quality of our students’ education and facilitates their transition into the workforce. This innovation and commitment to continuous improvement are therefore largely dedicated to supporting our students’ career readiness, which is one of our primary concerns. As a result, there are some 11,000 students and 1,300 staff members—including faculty researchers, instructors,
administrative and technical staff spread across our various campuses.Finally, our campuses are being renovated; innovation and the development of spaces for collaboration are everyone’s responsibility and should enable everyone to study and work there under the best possible conditions.

The Faculty of Sciences offers a wide range of programs, from bachelor’s degrees to doctoral degrees, including professional bachelor’s degrees and numerous master’s degrees, as well as three Master’s in Engineering programs.
All of these programs are available as part of continuing education.
The faculty also offers the option to take courses remotely through distance learning (EADS).
The school brings together 30 research units in partnership with major research organizations such as the CNRS, Inserm, and the CEA. Research of the highest caliber is conducted here.
