  • AIMS

Biological processes are inherently complex and can only be studied effectively through multidisciplinary approaches. Although diverse, the various disciplines in fundamental and medical biology (developmental biology, neurobiology, oncology, etc.) are based on common concepts and can be studied using complementary technologies. The aim of the BIP Master's degree is to train high-level biologists by providing them with a broad base of knowledge and skills in the fields of molecular biology, genetics, developmental biology, neurobiology and stem cells, while encouraging training at the interface between disciplines and raising students' awareness of biomedical applications. Laboratory placements will enable students to specialise in one of the main thrusts of the Masters.

  • FUNDAMENTAL PREREQUISITES

The prerequisites for entry into M1 are a bachelor's degree in biology with knowledge of molecular and cellular biology, genetics and physiology. It is essential that students have taken courses that have enabled them to understand the mechanistic foundations of biological processes.

  • LEARNING AND RESEARCH

Laboratory placements must be carried out in one of the institutes associated with the Master's programme, a list of which can be consulted at this link (https://crfb.univ-mrs.fr/bipmaster/fr/labo). These enable students to immerse themselves in the research environment and to carry out their own projects. The broad thematic scope of the laboratories gives students a wide choice of topics.

  • PROFESSIONAL SKILLS TO BE ACQUIRED

    • Know how to conduct a study of a biological process using a multidisciplinary, quantitative and integrated approach.
    • Know how to mobilise knowledge in several disciplinary fields to grasp the molecular processes that govern the living world and understand how their dysregulation leads to the onset of pathologies.
    • Implement an innovative, multidisciplinary experimental approach using the latest techniques to dissect the molecular mechanisms that control the development and physiology of eukaryotes using model organisms
    • Have the linguistic knowledge and writing methods to design, produce and present in written or oral form the results of a research project or bibliographical study in English or French
    • Designing, formalising and carrying out a research project to provide answers to a previously identified question
  • INTERNSHIPS AND SUPERVISED PROJECTS

The BIP master's programme includes two work placements. A 7-week internship in S2 and a 6-month internship in S4. These placements take place in one of the research laboratories associated with the master's degree.
