  • AIMS

Established in 1986, the Master's in Quality, Health, Safety and the Environment (QHSE) is one of the longest-running programmes in France dedicated to QHSE management systems. The Management Systems Engineering or Management Systems and Scientific Excellence (SMES) programme continues this tradition by offering a course that combines a cross-disciplinary, multidisciplinary and research-oriented approach. This two-year work-study programme welcomes students from a variety of bachelor's degree backgrounds, with a particular focus on science graduates, in order to develop skills suited to the challenges of management systems applied to research.

The SMES programme trains professionals capable of innovating in the design and implementation of management systems tailored to the specific needs of research and development environments. Building on an essential foundation of QHSE knowledge, students develop analytical, abstract and generalisation skills that enable them to tackle complex issues, whilst integrating strategic and scientific dimensions.

This programme emphasises the link between academic research and systems management, training graduates to lead innovative projects and contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field. The skills developed include risk management, aligning organisational strategies with scientific performance objectives, and devising methodological approaches in line with international standards.

The SMES programme guarantees quality objectives such as career integration and partnerships with the academic and industrial sectors. Graduates are thus prepared to take on key roles in research or to pursue a PhD, thanks to a rigorous programme focused on scientific excellence and sustainable performance.

The SMES programme develops unique expertise for students wishing to combine managerial skills with scientific rigour, positioning them as leaders capable of innovating and driving transformation within research-focused organisations.

  • SPECIFIC TEACHING CONDITIONS

The QHSE Master's programme is based on an innovative teaching approach centred on training in and through research, whilst incorporating contributions from researchers and professionals in the field. This programme offers a dual opportunity: entry into the workforce at the BAC+5 level or progression to doctoral studies.

The majority of teaching modules (UE) are organised into problem-based and project-based learning (APP) sequences, an active method that enables students to discover and assimilate new concepts by solving real-world problems. These PBL and PPM sessions take the form of group work and flipped classroom sessions, maximising autonomy, collaboration and collective intelligence.

These modules are complemented by core courses reinforcing core professional knowledge and cross-disciplinary modules focused on soft skills, communication and project management. At the same time, students develop methodological, technical and cross-disciplinary skills tailored to QHSE professions, including the management of complex systems, innovation, leadership and adaptability in a constantly evolving professional environment. Course units dedicated to research and the professional world enrich this programme, ensuring it remains closely aligned with real-world practice.
