Master's Degree in Social Intervention and Development, Specialization: Disability and Dependency

The Master's in Social Intervention and Development focuses on supporting the life journeys of people with disabilities, whilst respecting their independence and enabling their full social participation in an inclusive society. Graduates will go on to become managers of institutions or services, and/or developers of projects and programmes aimed at people with disabilities, within the health, medico-social and social sectors.

These objectives require the acquisition of the following knowledge:

• People with disabilities and/or those requiring care: neurobiological, cognitive, psychological, social and environmental aspects,
• Public policies developed for people requiring care,
• Law and compensation relating to disability and care needs,
• Knowledge of specialised institutions and services,
• Re-education, remediation and rehabilitation,
• Care pathway management and social engineering: approach, tools and methodology,
• Management of institutions for people with disabilities or those in need of care, regardless of age

Students on the initial training programme will, as a priority, hold a bachelor's degree in life sciences or humanities and social sciences. Students on the continuing professional development programme will be seeking to build on their professional experience in the medical, healthcare and/or social sectors, or in business management.

• SCIENCES, Marseille St-Charles

The programme will draw on neuroscience laboratories (LNIA UMR 7260, LNC UMR 7291), psychology laboratories (LPC UMR 7290, Paroles et Langages UMR 7309, Social Psychology Laboratory EA 849) affiliated with the University of Aix-Marseille. It will involve lecturers and researchers from these laboratories in delivering lectures, and will welcome our M1 students for seminars and practical work.

Furthermore, M2 students will be required each year to organise a national conference, which will bring together professionals and academics from across France and even from abroad.

Upon completion of the Master's programme, our students will have acquired the following skills:

• To assess and address situations of dependency linked to age or disability by drawing on fundamental knowledge in neuroscience, the humanities and social sciences, law, economics and management.
• Implement a social engineering approach based on the definition of a problem arising from observation and immersion within organisations providing support to people with disabilities and those in situations of dependency.
• To develop and implement innovative projects involving collaboration between the various stakeholders in the health and medico-social sector, with a view to improving quality of life and supporting people with disabilities.
• Apply the multidisciplinary knowledge acquired in the management of establishments or services providing care and support for people with disabilities to promote their independence and social participation.
• Develop a motivating and meaningful career plan, drawing on practical experience and academic knowledge, to facilitate entry into the workforce
• To manage a care facility or service, or to oversee a support scheme for people with dependency needs, prioritising respect for the individual and taking their life plans into account.
• Communicate clearly and coherently, both orally and in writing, adapting to the target audience; use English-language reference materials; and be proficient in digital tools for remote collaborative work.

In the M1 year, an 8-week work placement is offered in organisations providing support to older people and/or people with disabilities. In the M2 year, students undertake a project to support people using social engineering. Each of these placements is supervised on an individual basis by members of the teaching committee.

From the first year of the Master's programme (M1) onwards, the course will prioritise a skills-based approach (flipped classroom, projects, use of information and communication technologies in teaching) and continuous assessment. Social engineering projects account for a significant proportion of the course in both the first and second years of the Master's programme (reports and oral presentations).

The jobs targeted are: head of department, director of a facility for the elderly and/or disabled, project manager in departmental disability centres, project manager for actions in favour of the elderly and/or disabled, head of local information and coordination centres, head of centres for the autonomy and integration of Alzheimer's patients (MAIA), etc.
