Spotlight on Melody GASIOROWSKI - Senior Educational Advisor (AMNS Program)
I support students throughout the year to help them succeed in their academic journey. I meet with them individually to identify any challenges they may be facing, offer advice, and provide guidance as needed. I also monitor their attendance and academic performance in collaboration with the academic staff. In collaboration with various university departments (SUIO, the Office of Student Life, the Disability Services Office, the Registrar’s Office, the CROUS social services department, etc.), I guide them toward the support services best suited to their individual situations. My role also involves supporting them with organization, study habits, and their integration into university life.
"Student feedback highlights the attentiveness, availability, and kindness in the support provided. They emphasize the trust built during our interactions, the assistance received in navigating their academic processes, and the support they’ve received in overcoming challenges or considering a change in academic direction. For many, this support is crucial in helping them regain confidence and develop a plan that suits them.”
Some student feedback:
- "Thank you for listening and being so available—it really helped me."
- “I felt confident and supported throughout my journey.”
- "Your guidance helped me bounce back and find a path that’s right for me."
Tutoring - Academic Assistance Provided by Students
These are typically two-hour sessions during which student tutors help you with your studies, answer your questions, and help you overcome challenges in specific subjects.
Currently, tutoring is available for the Portal program, L2 SV, L2/L3 math, and the MPCI bachelor’s degree. If your program needs this kind of support (not just you individually, but a group of students in your program), contact your year coordinator.
MPCI Tutoring
MPCI third-year students offer weekly tutoring sessions for first-year students throughout the academic year. In this multidisciplinary bachelor’s program, the challenges first-year students face in adapting to their studies can vary by discipline. Regular communication between first-year and third-year students allows us to tailor the sessions to provide targeted support for the specific needs and challenges encountered in each discipline.
This tutoring is particularly beneficial for first-year students, who benefit from peer-to-peer learning and support that is nearly as personalized as one-on-one guidance. It also serves as a highly formative experience for third-year students, who strengthen their scientific skills while developing the perspective needed to explain and convey concepts to students at the beginning of their academic journey.
Tutoring on the Portal
Students from the third year of undergraduate studies through the first year of graduate studies offer tutoring sessions for courses considered challenging or in which students are struggling. Some courses have tutoring sessions every year. However, for example, last year when the new curriculum was introduced, problems were identified in a new course. Thanks to student feedback provided to their instructors, a tutoring program was quickly implemented during the academic year to address these issues.
Facilitating and Teaching a Tutoring Session
This tutoring is provided by students from their second year of undergraduate studies through their second year of graduate studies who are employed by the faculty.
